Аннотация: Статья предлагает подробный анализ важной публикации гентского профессора М. ван Уитфанге, в которой суммируются усилия сторонников поздней хронологии, отодвигающей языковой сдвиг от латинского к романским языкам на VIII–IX вв. (М. Баньяр, Й. Херман, Р. Райт и др.). Термин «диглоссия» обозначает период за сто лет до сдвига, «билингвизм» – после сдвига. Датировка самого сдвига в Галлии первой половиной IX в. опирается на внешние факторы (капитулярий Турского собора 813 г. и «Страсбургские присяги»).

Abstract: The article offers a detailed analysis of an important publication by professor M. van Whitfange from Ghent, which summarizes the efforts of the supporters of the late chronology, postponing the linguistic shift from Latin to Romanesque languages in the 8th – 9th centuries (M. Banniard, J. Herman, R. Wright and others). The term "diglossia" refers to 286 АРИСТЕЙ XXII (2020) the period one hundred years before the shift, "bilingualism" after the shift. Dating the shift itself in Gaul to the first half of the 9th century relies on external factors (the capitulary of the Cathedral of Tours in 813 and the "Strasbourg oath").
