Любовная новелла в истории ганнибаловой войны (Опыт источниковедческого анализа)

Аннотация: Статья посвящена источниковедческим проблемам «Ливийских войн» Аппиана. В центре стоит любовная история Софонисбы и Масиниссы, анализ которой позволяет выявить источниковедческий метод Аппиана. Автор сравнивает этот рассказ с аналогичным рассказом Ливия и приходит к выводу, что последний восходит к Полибию. Затем показывает, что версия Аппиана не выдерживает исторической критики и противоречит фактам. После этого встает вопрос, где источник этой любовной новеллы Аппиана? Автор доказывает, что это был исторический греческий роман, вероятно начала нашей эры, который Аппиан включил в ткань своего повествования.

A Love Novel in the History of the Hannibal’s War(Attempt at the Source Study)

Abstract: The article proposes a new approach to source studies of the Libyan Wars described by Appian of Alexandria. The author suggests that a detailed analysis of the love story of Sophonisba and Masinissa sheds light upon Appian’s work with sources and the general character of his historical writings. Comparing this story with its narrative by Livy one can easily conclude that the latter borrowed it from the Histories of Polybius. Contrary to Livy, Appian’s narrative does not stand up to historical criticism and contradicts wellknown facts. What did Appian base his version of Sophonisba’s love story on? The author argues that Appian included in his narrative an unknown Greek historical romance probably dating back to the beginning of the CE.
